This is the
right place to be if you want to learn about the basics of
cycling. There are so many ways to approach cycling that it can
be confusing at times. This quick lesson should make you more
knowledgeable about the two wheel world! We will expand upon the
importance of bicycle fitting, the importance of the proper
attire, the different types of bicycles, and some bicycle racing
information.
We are not all
the same
-
People are not sized the same.
Just because a person 5'10, does not mean they should be on a
specific ride. Aspects of torso to inseam measurements,
arm lengths, femur lengths, shoulder width, and various other
measurements go into fitting on the right bike. Not every
bike is built on the same specs either. Let us find you
the right bike for your build and if needs be, we can also get a
frame custom built for you.
Bicycle fitting
is very important!
-
We strongly
believe that, “a great fit can make a mediocre bike feel like a
dream machine; and the dream machine that has the wrong fit is a
total nightmare!” Bicycle fitting is the connection between the
ride and the rider. Genetics, aerodynamics, and functionality
all go into a true bicycle fit. While there are formulas and
methods used to make that connection; a careful eye, rider’s
feedback, and rider’s physiological responses are the way to get
a true fit. Using the Fit Kit ™ method, a trainer, and a
combination of other assessment tools, we can dial in you bike
and make the machine an extension of your body. Appointments
for bicycle fittings are necessary. Every bike that is sold
from Banning’s Bikes is started with a proper assessment of the
size needed for each rider.
Proper cycling
attire
-
By
wearing the proper cycling attire for your riding you will
significantly increase your comfort while you ride and also once
you have finished. The most important single piece of clothing
to wear are cycling shorts. There are many different varieties
and we have hand picked a variety options that we think you will
appreciate. Secondly the jersey is very important, having one
will not only allow your body to breath but will also allow you
to store small items as they most often feature three back
pockets. Thirdly are cycling specific gloves and socks. Cycling
gloves come in either full length fingers or I fingerless
versions. Typically fingerless are preferred unless we are
experiencing a cold Southern California whether. Cycling
specific socks will allow your feet to breath and are great in
fighting blisters! They are thin in nature and feature moisture
wicking material, please come and check out our exciting new
designs.
